If there’s one thing rooted in Pennsylvania Dutch culture more than roast beef and mashed potatoes, it’s square dancing — a stepping and twirling dance for four couples, somewhat primitive yet bearing a hint of sophistication harkening back to its European origins. Whether a fiddle, an accordion, or a soundtrack of folk song oldies, it’s the spirit of tradition past, not the musical accompaniment, which makes square dancing a popular draw even today.
