This is one of my favorite recent shots. The subject is an old Dodge stake body truck that’s partially housed in an old barn near our home. I had rallied the troops (a.k.a. the wife and kids) together for a leisurely walk through the Appalachian countryside, and I figured it would be a great excuse (as if I needed one) to tote my camera and tripod along. I had seen this barn countless times before, but I never really even thought of photographing it until then. I set things up, took various shots (and all those required for the HDR processing), and upon post-production I was very pleased with the results.
I feel that the image is a testament and tribute to the legacy of American vehicles and the roles that they have played in shaping the various aspects of our country. I love the detail and color vibrancy in the image. The shot was taken with bright sun to my back, and I think it did a great job of illuminating the details not only of the truck but the surroundings as well. Taken as three separate RAW exposures (-2, 0, +2), combined and tonemapped in Photomatix, and final touches added in Photoshop.
