Christmas this year was a much-needed break and distraction in our family’s life, and I was more than thankful for the several days to do nothing [much] but focus on family, the holiday, and spending time together. My mother-in-law passed two weeks before Christmas Day which made the entire season especially difficult on my wife. However, despite the solemnity, we were able to have some great times and wonderful memories with family and relatives.

Unlike some previous years, I was actually looking forward to the holiday. Our four-year-old daughter was especially excited about Christmas and was totally stoked about her new digital camera (with separate digital photo frame for viewing her masterpieces) along with a whole myriad of other toys and presents she received. Our one-year-old was simply content to take gifts out of their packaging and then attempt to put them back, but eventually he got the hang of actually playing with the presents.

I love being with my wife and kids more than anything, but by the time this morning rolled around, I was more than ready to head back to the office. There’s only so much one’s frayed nerves can handle when it comes to screaming kids and the battle wounds they inflict on one another. And my wife so kindly reminded me of how well I really do have it with a gracious comment of, “Welcome to my world.”

I’m still going through all the photos that I took, so be on the lookout for a Christmas photo essay in the near future.
